McCoy’s Building Supply Donates One Million Dollars to Texas Tech University

McCoy’s Building Supply donated $1 million to Texas Tech University in the spring of 2023. The donation to the Alderson & Griffin Center for Family Business & Entrepreneurship in the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business in the form of an endowment will create a speaker series bringing prominent, family business leaders to the campus.

Supporting the Future of Entrepreneurship

In a press release, Rawls College Dean Margaret Williams said. “We are thrilled to have this level of support from the McCoy family for this special speaker series. The original vision for the Alderson and Griffin Center included opportunities for entrepreneurs and family business owners to learn from experts and those with hands-on experience to enhance the success of their ventures. I am grateful to the McCoy family for making this vision a reality.”

The McCoy Family Speaker Series will be open to the family business community at the center as well as current students. It will be designed to provide insight on leadership and entrepreneurism.

Champions of Family-Owned Business

“We are champions of family-owned businesses,” said Board Chairman and retired CEO Brian McCoy in a statement to Texas Tech University. “With this speaker series, we hope to share with students what it means to be a privately held business along with the special challenges and opportunities that come with that. We are very proud to enhance our affiliation with Texas Tech and Rawls College with this gift.”

Several members of the McCoy family are Texas Tech alumni. Brian McCoy is a 1975 graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. His siblings: Brenda, Mike and Dennis, all also graduated from the university in the 1970s. The company had a store in Lubbock from 1971 to 1995 and is excited to return to the area with a new store slated to open late 2023.
